For many years, the Ouachita Baptist University Tiger Marching Band has captivated audiences across this part of the country with outstanding performances. Whether marching before the home crowd or away, at an Invitational marching competition as an exhibition band or simple performing in the local parades, the Ouachita Tiger Marching Band has attained a position of distinction and a reputation for excellence. The entertainment value of this group is second to none.
The OBU Tiger Marching Band is under the director of Robert Hesse, Josh Bynum and Lee Parham. Any student at Ouachita Baptist University is welcome to join the OBU Marching Tiger Band. The membership of the band represents virtually every school and curriculum on the OBU campus. The band size varies from year to year and has had as many as 120 members. Many of the members are music majors preparing for careers as performers or teachers. The majority of the members are not music majors who want to be a part of an exciting performing group. The band includes members from numerous states with a large enrollment from Arkansas and Texas.
There are scholarships available for membership in the Ouachita Baptist University Tiger Marching Band. Students may audition throughout the year for positions in this ensemble with emphasis on selected audition days. Color Guard, Feature Twirler and Field Commander Auditions are held each spring for these leadership positions.
Past performances have included the music of Bill Chase, Chicago, Sandi Patti, Tower of Power and many new contemporary artists. Throughout its history, one of the primary goals of the Ouachita Baptist University Tiger Marching Band has been to foster the Tiger Spirit. With approximately 12 - 20 performances and exhibitions starting from early fall and extending through the Christmas season, the OBU Tiger Marching Band does exactly that.
