COURSES TAUGHT:

        Fundamentals of Stagecraft -- introductory course focusing on the craft end of theatre
            design and production, includes sections on scenery, painting, lighting, costuming,
            drafting and properties.

        Fundamentals of Design -- introductory course focusing on the expressive/artistic end of
            theatre design and production, includes sections on visual image as language, designing,
            figure drawing, perspective and design processes in the theatre.

        Fine Arts:  Theatre -- CORE course that introduces students to theatre as a unique
             expressive medium.  Topics include genre, style, practitioners and writing of an
             original ten-minute play.

        Scene Design -- upperlevel course on designing stage environments for movement,
             storytelling and visual impact.  Includes modeling, rendering, research and scenic
             painting.

        Costuming -- upperlevel course on envisioning and building costumes for the stage.

        Stage Lighting and Sound -- upperlevel course on technical and design practices for the
             creation of lighting and sound environments for theatrical production.

         Theatre History I -- a survey of theatre from Egypt/Greece through Restoration England
             with the addition of sections on Asian, African and Indian theatre traditions.

        Introduction to Theatre -- foundational course for theatre majors and minors.  The history
             and practice of theatre as an expressive form.

        Liberal Arts -- foundational course for the CORE program.  Introduces students to the
             larger issues in liberal arts education and asks students to consider themselves and
             their ideas in relation to their larger humanity.

        Junior and Sophomore Readings -- CORE readings courses

        Modern Drama/Twentieth Century Drama/American Drama -- upperlevel elective courses
             in dramatic literature.  Team taught with colleagues in theatre and english
             departments.

        Technical Practicum -- applied course for students that requires technical crew or design
             work on theatre productions for the term.

        Stage Management -- course that looks at the enormous and mostly hidden task of being
             the overseer and coordinator of the play in production.   

 

CREATIVE ACTIVITIES:
